Lanes Races 2018

A reminder that the Lanes Race will take place as usual on Tuesday the 21st of August. The race starts from the Institute at 7:00 pm, so do come down to see the runners off or cheer them on towards the end, or both – we expect the fastest runners back at the Institute before 7:30, so they will make their appearance in Town End at the bottom of The Gates/The Old George/Hades Lane before then! Or you might catch glimpse of them near High Mere some time in between.

Food (beef chilli and a couple of veggie options) will be available for everybody (runners and spectators) from 7:00.

Registration for runners is from 6:30 – the Institute will be open from 6:15.

Thank you for supporting this Taddington tradition.

UPDATE: A record number of entrants, in recent memory anyway! Well done all.
The results can be viewed here.

Wells Week 2018

18 August to 24 August 2018

A WARM WELCOME

Every year, the small village of Taddington in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, is pleased to welcome people from all over the world to its Well Dressing and Flower Festival.

Each year there is a different theme on which the designs are based and this year the theme is Classic Fairy Tales.

The Village Fete runs at the same time, with events throughout the week for a wide range of ages:

Live and Local – ‘Amy Johnson’

Taddington Institute is hosting the Badapple Theatre Company on Thursday 12 April with their production of ‘Amy Johnson‘, a play by Kate Bramley.
You know the name but do you know her story? This fascinating show has been all over the country from the Edinburgh Fringe to village halls. The company are even touring the original replica Gypsy Moth biplane they built for the original show. By all accounts, it’s pretty impressive! The story follows the inspirational life of Amy Johnson, born in Hull who went on to become one of the world’s most famous aviators when she became the first woman to fly solo from the UK to Australia in 1930. But that’s not the end of her story … During the second world war she had a vital role as one of a team of female pilots working as auxiliary personnel. As well as celebrating her pioneering, record-breaking career, the show reveals her final mysterious wartime journey and the questions left unanswered about how she met her end.
With trademark Badapple good humour, realistic and appealing characters (Betty and Mabel, the two jovial WAF girls), this is also a respectful tribute to Hull’s ‘First Lady of the Air’.
This experienced and professional theatre company have twenty years of touring experience which means they are reliable regulars in the village hall theatre circuit with crowd pleasing shows which ensure they are invited back again and again.
“… Brilliant storytelling, funny, poignant and compelling. Would see it again!”
“… poignant soliloquies, precise and subtle narrative with obvious pathos at its core.” The List, Edinburgh
