A Fistful of Spookies

Performance date and time
Thursday, 27th October 2016
7:30 PM

‘Highly theatrical’ (The Telegraph) and ‘hugely entertaining’ (Time Out), A Fistful of Spookies veer from silly originals (‘Don’t Stand Between a Man and his Tool’), beautiful contemporary songs (Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Beach Boys), ancient hymns and spine-tingling Georgian choral music, and back again.

A ‘fun size version’ (Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 6 Music) of the hugely successful 16-man Australian performance choir, The Spooky Men’s Chorale, The Spookies charm audiences with their gorgeous close harmony singing whilst dressed top to toe in black, sporting a fine range of mad hats, moustaches and beards that make them ‘look like a mildly deranged gang of construction workers, colonial governors and pirates’ (The Guardian).

And putting aside the wackiness, the singing is of the highest quality; sharp, precise and enthralling to watch.

‘Silly, thoughtful and in perfect harmony… [mixing] deadpan comedy with sophisticated a capella harmonies… the results are unexpected, charming and very funny.’ The Guardian

‘Inspired. A fantastic night out is guaranteed!’ BBC Radio 2
