We are delighted to be hosting Blair Dunlop, a talented musician with a tremendous following, LIVE in Taddington at our next Live and local event at the Institute on 1st October.

Tickets £12-00 (Standard) £10-00 (Over 65) £8 (Under 16/Student)
Please note that there will be no tickets on the door.

We are not certain whether we will be serving refreshments but do feel free to bring your own (including something to drink out of!). Do remember to bring some change for one of Peter’s special raffles. And … remember to bring your masks! (There will be some on the door in case you forget).

Blair Dunlop is the son of folk-rock musician Ashley Hutchings (formerly a member of Fairport Convention) and singer Judy Dunlop. (As a young actor, he made his film debut in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory playing the part of Willy Wonka and was also on Rocket Man.) He now works as a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He took over the running of The Albion Band from Hutchings in 2011 but folded the band in 2013 to focus on his solo career. He has released several albums. including Blight and Blossom, House of Jacks, Gilded, Notes From An Island. He won the Horizon Award at the 2013 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and also the Special Jury Prize of the Premio Ciampi in the city of Livorno in Italy in November 2014 and has toured as far afield as Australia.

Live and Local – Bonfire Radicals

Live and Local is making a welcome return to Taddington with Bonfire Radicals booked to perform on Friday 25 June at 7:30 at the Institute.

Birmingham based Bonfire Radicals have emerged from the folk/world scene with a fresh approach to traditional tunes and a host of creative original material. They weave together raucous woodwind, delicate vocals, progressive violin, hard hitting bass, psychedelic electric guitar and percussive beats. Drawing on their eclectic backgrounds, the band chart many divergent influences upon their sound – medieval polyphony, jazz tinged swing, Canterbury sound, klezmer and all points in between. Known for their highly-spirited stage presence, the Bonfire Radicals’ own enthusiasm for their music is undeniable.

All tickets will be paid for in advance – payment can be made by cash either to Peter or to Jan or by bank transfer (details available at the time of booking).

As well as following all the basic regulations in place at the time, we will take extra measures to ensure that people feel comfortable and safe. We are not advertising as broadly as usual, so the audience will be mainly family, friends and neighbours.

Tier 3 restrictions in Derbyshire

Tier 3

The national restrictions end on December 2nd and England will now move back into the previous tier system. 

Regardless of what tier you’re in shops, personal care, gyms and the wider leisure sector will re-open, but restrictions will be in place to help prevent the spread of the virus.

The Government has placed Derbyshire and Derby into Tier 3 (Very High) coronavirus alert level. This means:

  • you must not meet socially indoors, or in most outdoor places, with anybody you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble
  • you must not socialise in a group of more than 6 in some other outdoor public spaces, including parks, beaches or countryside accessible to the public
  • hospitality settings, such as bars pubs, cafes and restaurants are closed but can operate a take-out or collection service
  • accommodation such as hotels, B&Bs, campsites, and guest houses must close
  • indoor entertainment and tourist venues must close
  • exercise classes and organised sport can take place outdoors but avoid higher-risk contact activity, none indoors unless it is with a household or bubble, organised sport for elite athletes, under 18s and people with disabilities can continue
  • you should avoid travelling to other parts of the UK, including for overnight stays, other than where necessary.

Christmas bubbles

It’s been a tough year and Christmas is nearly here with the promise of presents, food and a little festivity.

The Government has this week announced a temporary relaxation of restrictions from the 23 – 27 December where you can form a ‘Christmas bubble’ with friends or family.

This means:

  • You can form a ‘Christmas bubble’ made up of people from no more than three households.
  • Existing support bubbles count as one household towards the three-household limit. This means that if you are in a support bubble, you can collectively form a Christmas bubble with two other households.
  • You can only be in one Christmas bubble and you cannot change your Christmas bubble
  • You can only meet your Christmas bubble in private homes or in your garden, places of worship, or public outdoor spaces.
  • You cannot meet someone in a private dwelling who is not part of your household or Christmas bubble.

We all welcome the opportunity to spend time with loved ones this Christmas, but it’s important to remember Coronavirus hasn’t gone away.

Follow the Christmas guidelines, wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering where required and keep a safe distance from people not in your bubble.
